Clermont County CVB announces Cincinnati high school rowing event
Rowing invitational launches Saturday
It may not be Hilton Head, but there’s water and a beach and – weather permitting – some sun.
The Cincinnati High School Rowing Invitational is Saturday, April 11, at East Fork State Park in Bethel.
“There’s a lot of racing to see,” said Andy Piepmeier, head varsity girls coach for the host Cincinnati Junior Rowing Club. “It’s going to be a lot of fun.”
The racing begins at 8 a.m. on the beach of East Fork Lake. Admission is free, as is parking.
“They can come throw a blanket down and spend a few hours,” Piepmeier said. “It’s supposed to be nice. No rain, no thunder – which will be great.”
The event features 16 clubs, including teams from Chicago, St. Louis, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, even one from Oklahoma City. Local clubs participating include Cincinnati Country Day, Clermont Crew, Great Miami (based in Hamilton) and the Cincinnati Junior Rowing Club. The CJRC students hail from high schools around the area, including St. Xavier, Walnut Hills, Mount Notre Dame, St. Ursula and Ursuline.
“We haven’t raced really since last spring,” Piepmeier said. “So this is a good chance to see where we are.”
