Batavia Theatre Project
We are looking forward to the new Batavia Theatre Project. This brand new endeavor comes from a young husband and wife team who love their community. The following quote comes from their website:
“We have noticed a lack of cultural events within the village of Batavia and the struggle of small local businesses to stay afloat and bring new patrons to the area. With that and our backgrounds in the arts and community development, we have envisioned a professional theatre company, rooted within the village and creating opportunities for entertainment as well as jobs and helping to bring people into the Village.
It is our goal to present our theatre in a seasonal festival format, beginning with a few shows this summer in conjunction with the Batavia Bicentennial celebration. Our plan is to find talented actors, technicians and staff to present high-quality professional theatre, and to keep our endeavors within the Village as a brand to make Batavia known as a destination for talent and theatre-goers. We expect to hire professionals from both within and outside of the area as department leads, and hire/intern interested locals to help them prepare for the possibility of a professional career in live theatre. The intention is that by doing so, we can enrich our community by drawing people to Batavia, Ohio as a destination for arts and culture.”
Their first offering will be “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” on August 1, at Sycamore Park, which is free to the public. “Batavia’s Bicentennial: A Dramatic Retelling of Our Village’s History” and “Our Town” will run in conjunction with the Village of Batavia’s bicentennial celebration.
